Let's Go Fins! Season Information
****** this is a duplicate, original sent through the old list serve ***********
Hi all - did you miss the meeting yesterday or didn't write it all down? Well, here it is. Save this email!
New Website: So, we have a new piece of software to manage the team/share information. There are still a lot of holes in it. You will click on links that clearly have the stock language explaining what SHOULD be there or how to edit the page. I would encourage someone to step up and help us with this. There is a lot of information that could be added, but we are squeezing in the edits between many other things. I have included a link below to a page with the best available schedule I could find on the site, for example. There must be a better way to look at the calendar, but I haven't figured it out yet. If you are inclined to help, swimtopia has lots of tutorials about how to edit and manage the site and it’s very intuitive. It is just taking a fair bit of time in the set up phase. For your own benefit, swimtopia has a lot of information on their site and you may find the answers to your questions there: help.swimtopia.com. We will do our best to keep making it user friendly.Registration update:
- Registration is $100 per child and $15 for insurance. Registration can be refunded if your child doesn't join the team if you let us know by June 10.
- I think I have added points to all the jobs now, so you should be able to complete your registration.
- You must register and pay before your child will be allowed to dive at practice.
- Registration will close on June 10.
- Every child who registers for swim and/or dive gets 1 t-shirt
- Pre-season - May 28 - June 14 at 5pm and 6pm - come when you can, flexibility is our middle name.
- Season - June 17 - July 15 - 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm - we will announce soon which age groups will practice at which times, we need to see whether we need to work around swim practices.
- Let us know if your child will attend each meet during the season. On the website you can rsvp for events. Pleasae use this feature to confirm your child will be diving at meets or if they will be unavailable. If the RSVP feature is turned off for an event, there is no need to RSVP (eg. pasta parties).
- Help run the meets and the team
- Meet jobs:
- We have set point values for each job and required each family to sign up for the 3 points worth of jobs in order to register. This will increase as I don't think we can pull off the meets if every family only does one job.
- Each home meet requires 24 approximately 2 hour jobs = 72 jobs per season
- Each away meet requires 12 approximately 2 hour jobs = 24 jobs per season
- Right now we have 25 families signed up, so we are really look at more like 12 points per family and not 3
- Season long jobs
- Concessions - parents sign up to set up, sell and clean up concessions, but we do need one parent to coordinate - this means, deciding what to sell and stocking up; helping with set-up and clean up and knowing where things are, bringing change for the cashbox and taking the money home. We usually make about $600 and this amount is in our budget, if we don't have concessions, we will have to raise the registration fee to cover the budget.
- Website/Communications - we need someone who is interested in populating the website with useful information and clearing out all the boilerplate language and pages; this person could also upload photos, send reminders and post a weekly meet summary. This could certainly be split into two people.
- Banquet Coordinators - we need two dive parents to work with the swim parents and plan the banquet (others will need to sign up to help on the day of the banquet).
- Slide Show creator - we need someone to take all the photos from the year and pull it together into a 10 minute slideshow.
- Photographers - we need parents to take, edit and curate photos
- Spiritwear - we need a parent to sell spirit wear at our home meets
Team suits The team suit is the Dolfin Spyker in red/black. You may where this suit or any other red/black suit you want. Please avoid suits with a vertical stripe on the side. You may purchase this suit anywhere you like. If you go to Capital Swim on Metropolitan in Kensington, Lois will heat transfer the team logo onto the suit (whether you buy it from her or not). She will be at the pool on May 31 at 6pm to have kids try suits on and to sell them (usually she orders them and you get them later).
Judges and Referees Parents serve as Judges and Referees at meets. There are four clinics to learn how to do this. They are great to attend to learn more about diving even if you are not ready to judge on your own. After you have been trained you are always welcome to sit behind a judge and shadow them to see how it works. Here are the clinics: June 9 - 10am - Country Glen
June 12 - 6:30pm - Merrimack Pool
June 13 - 6:30pm - Rock Creek Pool
June 17 - 6:30pm - Westleigh
Rookie Meet - Sunday June 9, 1pm at Country Glen
Any diver who has never competed in a meet is welcome to attend this meet to see what it's like. Parents who have never judged, ref'd or done table work are also welcome to come to learn or shadow during this meet. We will send more information soon in a separate message.
